Condensation comes when the temperature falls below the dew point and water condenses out of the air onto a relatively cold object. When the relative humidity reaches 100% any excessive humidity is shed as condensation. The water condenses out of the air onto any cold object, like the outside of a cold soda bottle. Condensation occurs almost everywhere and can cause a great deal of water on your floor. You may have condensation if your walls are damp in more than one specific area. You may also get a great deal of dripping from your pipes.
Condensation is a major cause of basement dampness and water. They charge as much as they can. If they see a problem that can be fixed at low cost, or one that has a simple solution, they won’t mention it, but will only talk about “preventing serious damage” and try to scare you into signing a big contract.
